Jeppe Just Christensen is composer-in-residence at Athelas in 2009-2010. The collaboration has been possible through a grant from the Danish Arts Foundation. “I’m looking forward to a close collaboration with musicians who have specialised in contemporary music,” says Jeppe. During or collaboration I will write new works for the ensemble and also participate in community concerts as a part of Athelas’ ongoing education projects and outreach programmes.
Jeppe took private lessons with Peter Bruun from 1998-1999. He got his diploma in composition and theory of music at The Royal Danish Music Academy in 2005. He studied with Ivar Froundberg, Hans Abrahamsen, Niels Rosing-Schow and Bent Sørensen. In 2005-2006 he began his Post-graduate studies at Hochschule für Musik, Karlsruhe, with Wolfgang Rihm. Debut-concert spring 2008 in Literaturhaus, Copenhagen. He has attended masterclasses with Isabel Mundry, Rolf Wallin and Tristan Murail.
In November 2007 he held a three-day composition masterclass in Morelia, Mexico. Recieved the Wilhelm Hansen Award 2007. Stipend from the Léonie Sonning Music Foundation 2009. Jeppe is working with different ensembles, and is, among others using electro-acoustic, video and homemade/rebuilt instruments in his music. His works has been performed at fesivals such as, Sound Around, Pulsar in Copenhagen, Young Nordic Music Festival (UNM), Suså Festival, Wundergrund, Spor-Festival, Aspekte in Salzburg and ISCM World Music Days in Göteborg 2009.
