Karl Husum – Trumpet

b. 1975
Instrument: Vincent Bach C-trompet, built 1995

Karl Husum is a gifted musician with a sensitivity bordering to the soul shaking. He furthermore possesses an astonishing technique. After playing difficult notes by Nørgård, Sørensen og Rasmussen during a rehearsal in Louisiana, Museum of Modern Art, a couple of years ago, Karl used the coffee break to play Donna Lee. In tranquillity, with crossed legs and a tempo he played it in such a way that most of this earthly world’s jazz trumpet players would faint due to envy. But for Karl it is nothing to play fast and brilliantly. Technique is just a tool to forming the upraised.

Karl is a ‘complete’ musician, a searching being who is always on the road and ready to explore new territories. That is why he is part of Athelas. If he weren’t we’d probably have to invent him.
