Athelas New Music Festival 2010 hereby calls for scores for the composers’ competition Carl’s Award. Works that are submitted will be judged by a jury, and some will be selected for performance during the festival which takes place in the “Teater République” 5-12 June 2010. On June 12, the winners of Carl’s Award will be announced, and will be presented with the awards. First prize is 5000 Danish kroner, and second prize is 3000 kroner.
The work is to be composed for one or more instruments which the composer does not play on a professional level. The composer is to bring the instrument or instruments which the score requires, and must perform the work himself/herself on the instrument or instruments in the bar of the festival, the Café Carl. The composition must be for one performer, and other musicians must not take part in the performance. The work must have a duration of 4-6 minutes.
Entries must be sent to Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, Kronprinsensgade 7, 1114 København K. The deadline for submission is May 15. There are no formal requirements as to how the entry is presented – traditional or graphic notation or descriptive notes can be used, etc.
The jury retains the right to cancel the competition, if no entries are deemed suitable for the awards.
